This week sees the introduction to Web 2.0 tools, running through the course and its demands/assessments. Google Account created, and in the process of setting up this blogger account (Kate's 1751 Blog). This blog is designed as a reflective journal for the course.
The class has been paired up into groups based on disciplines/teaching area. I'm the only business major, and have paired with the only fine art major which will prove quite a stretch for our respective curriculua. Kim may choose to swap tutorials, however for now we will brainstorm on the group task of creating 4 lessons based on Web 2.0 tools in case we end up being paired for the assessment.
For assessment 2, we are required to work within our pairs to create 4 lessons. Combining the business (Commerce for stage 5) and visual arts (Design elective) curricula, the closest link we are able to find is in the 'Promoting and Selling' elective option, talking about the visual elements of advertising, and it's effects on consumers and consumer choice.
The main ideas that we can brainstorm to link both the curricula is the visual elements of promotion/advertising. The intended impacts upon consumers through the design/layout of ads and packaging to capture consumer attention and interest. The legal and ethical impacts and complications of advertising and atrwork.
Possible case study ideas: Apple - minimalist and sleek design. Breakdown of visual elements, and what these elements convey about the business. Promotional techniques (Ads designed to smash stereotype).
Commercialisation of art can be focussed on: Takashi Murakami - Designs/art used in a commercial setting.
Emphasis on the commercial aspect of art. To combine the curricula.
Brainstorming on the Web 2.0 elements:
- Photoshop for poster design.
- Creating promotional website for NFP org.
- Video Ad - Youth oriented event -- Upload video for peer review in a final lesson (YouTube or other video hosting site)
- Use of an online collaboartive environment (wiki or other) to formulate and execute an entire class project. (Advert or otherwise)
- Assessment idea: In groups, students are hired on behalf of a business to create an advertisement/packaging for a product/service. Emphasis on the visual elements, and their impacts upon consumers. Focus on the marleting aspects of targeting, purpose, techniques etc. Perhaps; students create and undertake a promotional campaign within the controlled school environment. Include an online portfolio of the design elemnts documenting the process. Anti-bullying campaign is relevant, allows for creative freedom, easy enough to execute.
